"So, why does good journalism matter? In a world awash in information, who will readers/viewers turn to? News sources they believe in!" Mike Wilson, a journalist, wrote this quote in a post I found on this website. I agree very much with this point he made. In time of crisis, we turn to the news. From 9/11 to the the attacks of ISIS, we rely on the work of journalists to inform us.
Journalism also gives us entertainment. Not all journalistic stories are sad and depressing, but others could be informative and engaging. Shows like TODAY and CBS This Morning are perfect examples. We watch them to learn the newest information, but also for entertainment. We like watching our favorite celebrities get interviewed as we watch the news. That might not be journalism, but it's a tactic they use to get you to watch.
It matters because it also gives jobs. As boring as that sounds, it's true. Journalists can work in so many different types of jobs. From working on a news station, to newspapers, to working on magazines and blog websites. There are many different job platforms a journalism degree can get you.
It all goes to show, journalism is very important whether we know it or not. We rely on their work for entertainment and the newest and most important information facing our world today.
